Jet Rescue Air Ambulance Transport Jet
At approximately 6:30 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025 a
Learjet 55 Medevac flight crashed into a commercial and
residential Philadelphia neighborhood shortly after taking
off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The aircraft, owned
by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance and operated by Med Jets,
carried a child who had just received treatment for a
life-threatening condition and her mother and four crew
members. One individual on the ground was killed and
nineteen people were transported to area hospitals.
Shortly after 6 p.m., an air traffic controller instructed
the flight crew to turn right when departing, and
approximately 30 seconds later the controller repeated the
request before asking, “You on frequency?” Minutes later,
the controller says, “We have a lost aircraft. We’re not
exactly sure what happened, so we’re trying to figure it
out.” The aircraft quickly disappeared from radar after
taking off at 6:06 PM and climbing to an altitude of 1,600
feet. It was reportedly airborne for about 40 seconds and
fell from the sky at around 11,000 feet per minute leading
experts to believe it suffered some type of catastrophic
failure almost immediately after taking off.
NTSB investigators have begun documenting the wreckage,
collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses, and all
aspects of this accident remain under investigation.
